I’ve decided that I want to create a character based on a common motif that occurs in my artwork and even my doodling, which is a personified heart. I frequently draw/paint hearts and like to give them facial features. I think this could be an interesting character to explore because hearts are often a symbol of love and it will be interesting to create images that portray emotions/characteristics other than love. I think I have a lot of opportunities to play with color story and different facial expressions on the actual character. I’m planning on experimenting with different settings or backgrounds for my character as well as maybe even bringing in other characters that I mentioned in the personality pop quiz. I also think this is a fun theme to have with Valentine’s Day upcoming and I’m planning on pulling a lot of stylistic elements from that holiday. I want to have red/pink be an overarching color theme but also want to bring in other cool tone colors to heavily contrast. I’m excited to see how detailed I can get with Photoshop and Illustrator and how I’m going to transition from physically drawing things to doing it on the computer. While this is a very open-ended project to mostly just get experience with the programs, I do want to portray some kind of message about the juxtaposition of love and hate and have some kind of overarching theme/message for all of the selfies as a collection.
