Originally I wanted to make a track that was transformative but after listening to the selection of sounds I changed gears. I ended up creating something that resembles a “day in the life” but I wanted to convey how monotonous that can get. Routine is nice, but when life lacks any kind of spark it makes life this droning process that exhausts us. I grouped different sounds in Audition to parts of the day. The opening sequence is the idea of stirring coffee, doing homework, brushing teeth and then is followed by reading a book, and then ripping the book. Then I had a period of somewhat random sounds like the cat meowing before transitioning into a “going out” segment. I used the piano track to show how detached it can get even when you’re out in a social setting. I ended with some more natural sounds like water and walking outside to kind of represent a breath of fresh air. There is one track that stays consistent throughout the composition that was originally a short clip of an AC unit but I slowed it down and it turned into a flat, single tone, distorted audio. I definitely think I could have used more effects and been more adventurous but I almost wanted to keep it simple to show the plainness of life and how it is to be stuck in a detached funk. I wanted to use this to represent the “droning” aspect of life. I also wanted to convey dissociation and detachment from everyday life.
